Study Design

The study employs a cross-sectional validation design with simultaneous EEG recording from two devices. Both EEG systems record neural activity concurrently while participants perform identical experimental tasks, enabling direct comparison of signal features across devices.

Tools

EEG data is recorded using two EEG systems: the Menteve EEG system developed by Menteve Health, IIT Kanpur, and the Neuroelectrics Starstim 32 system, which served as the benchmark research-grade device. PsychoPy was used for experimental task design and stimulus presentation. EEG data streams from both devices were acquired using LabRecorder, while NIC2 software from Neuroelectrics was used for channel configuration and real-time data streaming of the Neuroelectrics system. Data preprocessing and analysis were conducted using MATLAB and Python, with EEGLAB and ERPLAB toolboxes in MATLAB used for EEG and event-related potential analysis.

EEG Recording

The Neuroelectrics system was pre configured with Fz, FC1, FC2, Cz, CPz, P1, P2, and POz electrodes, with the earlobes serving as both reference and ground. The Menteve EEG system utilized F1, F2, FCz, CP1, CP2, Pz, PO3, and PO4 electrodes, with the earlobe serving as the reference electrode and AFz serving as the ground electrode. Standard EEG preparation procedures were followed.
